Sb based materials
Antimony based materials such as indium antimonide and gallium antimonide exhibit properties that render the materials ideal for infrared applications such as advanced night-vision detection.
IQE's Wafer Technology division has many years
experience in antimonides and the Group's capabilities
in this area were expanded in 2010 with the acquisition
of Galaxy Semiconductors based in Spokane, WA.
IQE is actively engaged in a US Department of Defense initiative for the Fabrication of Strained Layer Superlattice Focal Plane Array (FastFPA) and a NSF-GOALI program with the Univesity of Iowa.
FastFPA
Program Goal: To develop Sb‐based type‐II strained-layer superlattice (SLS) for long-wave IR detection
Sponsor: MDA
Collaborators: ASL Analytical, NRL, JPL, RVS, TIS, HRL, BAE, QmagiQ
Key Accomplishments:
- Demonstrated 1st live long-wave Sb-SLS camera (QmagiQ, SPIE 2009)
- Demonstrated 1st long-wave Sb-SLS photodiode
structure grown on 4” GaSb substrate from IQE-Wafer
Technology (SPIE-DSS 2010)

NSF-GOALI
To study the defect formation and phase transitions in GaInAsSb semiconductor quaternary alloys versus Ga(In)Sb/InAs short-period superlattices for the 2–5µm wavelength region
