Polishing Technician
Wafer Technology, Milton Keynes

The Role

The role involves the Polishing of wafers as part of the production activity, which will involve shift work on a 24-5 rotating shift pattern.

Key responsibilities:

  • To polish III-V semiconductor single crystal slices into finished wafers on a rotating shift basis.
  • To work in the prescribed clean room garb.
  • To undergo cross training on other processes as and when required.
  • To maintain product quality by processing materials according to instructions.
  • The recording of critical process control data.
  • To assist in the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • To maintain the production data and complete all required paperwork.
  • To mount and prepare single crystal slices in readiness for processing.
  • To prepare and start up the polishing processes in which the individual is competent.
  • To monitor and maintain the  processes in the polishing department
  • To complete/shutdown the  processes in the polishing department
  • To handover the process from one shift to the next
  • To maintain the operational standard in accordance with the defined schedule, i.e. clean and prepare items of plant and equipment.
  • Separate & dispose of by-products and waste as appropriate
  • Prepare work areas for maintenance
  • Adhering to all internal health, safety, HR, environmental and quality guidelines & procedures.
  • To be flexible and undertake other designated duties at the direction of the line manager.

Hours of work:    

Monday-Friday; 3 week shift rota earlies, lates and nights         

Education Background:      

Good level of education in English and Mathematics

Previous Experience:

  • Experience of working in a cleanroom environment is required.
  • Experience of handling chemical
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations and the adherence to procedures and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with process control and Statistical Process Control would be an advantage.

GaN Engineer

The Role

You will be part of the team for the development of GaN processes to fulfil both customer and internal requirements, with the goal to transfer the processes to production. The role includes

  • the analysis and presentation of epitaxial growth and characterisation data, within agreed time lines and technical objectives, to project sponsors, partners and customers
  • documentation of procedures for both the epitaxy and engineering processes to enable GaN epitaxy to be delivered in production
  • overseeing the delivery of the GaN epitaxial structures
  • overseeing the transfer of the GaN epitaxial structures between platforms either internally or from partner organisations

The role provides for the opportunity to undertake period(s) of secondment with a partner organisation in Europe involved in both epitaxy and device processing. The objective of such secondment will be to maximise the interaction and knowledge transfer from the partner organisation in terms of both the epitaxy and resulting device performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Evidence-based development of GaN MOVPE growth process, focussed on fit for production performance.
  • Presenting the results from epitaxy development to both IQE engineers and customers. Associated reports will be in the form of word-based documents, power point slides and data files.
  • Extracting from customers / partner organisations all the necessary information for IQE to be able to deliver the required state of art epitaxial structures.
  • Developing and documenting procedures for the operation of complex MOVPE reactors and characterisation tools
  • Innovation / IP generation
  • interface to Equipment, Operations, Supply management and Quality teams within IQE Europe
  • Maintain an awareness of world-wide developments in GaN
  • Adhering to all internal safety, HR, environmental and quality guidelines & procedures

Hours of work: Monday – Friday; 8.30am - 5.00pm.

Education background: Degree in Physics or Engineering

Essential skills: Analytical mind, attention to detail, willingness to challenge oneself, data management and manipulation.

Previous Experience:

  • Previous experience in epitaxy (MOVPE) and/or fabrication and characterisation of GaN HFETs would be an advantage.
  • Data management and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Good understanding of material characterization techniques including AFM, Hall, Mercury Probe, X-ray as well as device fabrications processes.

Customer Service Engineers
IQE Europe, Cardiff, UK

The Role

The Customer Service Engineer will use their technical knowledge and sales skills to prepare quotes for our worldwide Customer base. They will proactively assist IQE to reach its sales targets. They will work closely with Sales and Operational teams to determine IQE’s technical and commercial ability to meet the bespoke needs of each Customer

They will directly engage with the Customer, when necessary, to discuss and negotiate on both technical and commercial terms before creating the controlled technical specification and the quote. They will co-ordinate release to the Customer along with all supporting information necessary to present IQE’s offer.

At the point of order they will have provided the necessary information to ensure fulfilment in line with Customer expectation and the requirements for export and trade compliance. They will regularly review progress with the planning and engineering teams and update the Customer or Sales Managers as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • To receive and process quote requests from IQE’s Customers 
  • To liaise with IQE Technical Point of Contact (TPOC)  to ensure technical risk assessments are completed for all new parts
  • To create the controlled specification in IQE database including epi-layer design, targets and tolerances
  • Entry into IQE database of information captured during commercial and technical review to provide instruction to all relevant stakeholders
  • Preparation of IQE quote with all supporting documents including terms and condition of sale
  • To participate, as required, in discussion and negotiation with customers before and after order receipt.
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of export licence applications
  • To liaise with IQE planning to ensure timely processing of POs and release of internal production orders
  • To participate as required in customer visits and conference call activity
  • Continuously assess best practise processes to develop and optimise efficiency of the department
  • To ensure activities are conducted in compliance with legislative requirements, such as Export and HMRC
  • Adhering to all internal safety, HR, environmental and quality guidelines & procedure

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and continually refresh IQE’s recruitment program and sources to attract high calibre candidates and ensure positions are filled in an effective and compliant manner.

To enact timely fault finding and repairs to manufacturing systems and ensure continuous improvement by identifying and implementing lasting solutions to production problems.

Key functions of the role are as follows

  • The day-to-day maintenance of manufacturing systems and ancillary plant support systems.
  • Maximising the uptime of all equipment necessary for production.
  • Continual Improvement of reliability and performance of systems and equipment.
  • Proactive involvement in the support of CVD process improvement and problem solving programmes.
  • To provide site wide engineering and maintenance support to be carried out on manufacturing systems.
  • To provide medium and long term planned preventative maintenance function and record keeping.
