IQE of
Cardiff, Wales, UK has achieved a prestigious award from the British Safety
Council.
David Ballard, Director General of the British Safety Council, says: “The
International Safety Awards highlight organisations that demonstrate commitment
to health and safety. They are a mark of a proven and significant achievement in
safety standards. By making safety an important feature of everyday work
practice, IQE is reducing accidents and ill health while improving productivity
and profitability”.
Timothy Walker, Director General of the HSE, says: “A high level commitment to
health and safety is vital in securing good health and safety compliance. A good
health and safety record is good for business’ bottom line whatever the size of
the organisation. This award recognises this and rewards companies who have
taken health and safety seriously throughout their organisation”.
Prime Minister Tony Blair sent a message to winners: “At its best, sensible
health and safety should be about managing risks, rather than trying to
eliminate them altogether. Managing risks has a benefit not just to employees,
but also to the economy as a whole, helping to tackle the 39 million days lost
each year to ill health and injuries. I would like to congratulate all of you
who are honoured at tonight’s award ceremony”.
Approximately 1,000 award winners from a range of organisations world wide faced
a gruelling test to achieve the International Safety Award. Only companies with
accident incident rates better than the industry average for their sector are
eligible to apply, and winners must have sound safety policies and plans and a
board level commitment to health and safety. They must detail their health and
safety officers’ qualifications and provide details of significant health and
safety advances for the year. |
