Production Engineering Manager
Epi Engineer
Bethlehem (PA)
IQE, Inc. is seeking an Epi Engineer for III-V epitaxial
wafer foundry in Bethlehem, PA. The Epi Engineer is
responsible for efficient process implementation on, and
day-to-day operation of, all assigned MOVPE or MBE reactors.
Responsibilities include safety, production, and material
quality. The Epi Engineer is expected to understand and
anticipate interactions between the IQE growth process and
the customer’s process so that the customer receives
material that meets or exceeds expectations.
Responsibilities will include:
- Ensure that all assigned reactors are run in a safe manner consistent with established procedures.
- Make sure that the processes is fully documented.
- Write all recipes used by assigned reactors.
- Run reactors as required.
- Supervise and train technicians areas required.
- Participate in technical interaction with customers as assigned
- Establish daily growth sequence on all assigned reactors, communicating technical plans verbally and through the Current Operating Procedures (COP) form
- Ensure the product grown on assigned reactor(s) is high quality, meeting or exceeding customer specifications and expectations
- Ensure calibration and integrity of assigned reactor(s)
- Set growth parameters, review and interpret growth and characterization data, and direct all process adjustments, verifying that they are appropriate and within process guidelines established by internal SOPs as well as internal and external specifications
- Make judgments on issues that fall outside of established SOPs and specifications, deciding when possible issues should be escalated to Engineering / Operational Management
- Ensure accurate disposition of all wafers grown on assigned reactor(s), including assignment of appropriate status codes
- Keep and analyze all reactor operating data (i.e., source usage, throughput, yield, etc.) and provide to operational management as required to ensure effective scheduling and expectations.
- Troubleshoot material problems and work with the appropriate maintenance personnel to diagnose equipment issues so they can be repaired as efficiently as possible.
- Participate in process improvement activities as assigned
- Assist management in maintaining accurate manufacturing specifications
- Maintain relevant reactor documentation and SPC charts (when applicable)
- Periodically gather and compile data as assigned (e.g., for troubleshooting meetings), and write reports for reactor activities as requested
- Maintain continuous self-improvement in epi growth, semiconductor materials science, SPC, and device physics
- Maintain continuous training of technicians and process analysts
- Participate in engineering staff meetings and
company meetings
Requirements:
- A minimum of five years epi growth experience
- At least a bachelor’s degree in related science or engineering field, an advanced degree is preferred
Other skills and abilities:
- Expert understanding of semiconductor growth, characterization, and associated equipment
- Good understanding of semiconductor physics including band structure, crystal structure, impurity effects, depletion effects, etc.
- Basic understanding of the theory of semiconductor device operation (e.g., FET, diodes, BJT, lasers)
- Basic understanding of the processing of the above-mentioned devices
- Basic understanding of quantum mechanics and electromagnetic fields
- Communication skills necessary for effective interaction with other personnel within the company
- Knowledge of computers and software necessary to generate reports and run the assigned reactors

III-V epitaxial wafer foundry. This individual will be
responsible for all sustaining and developmental engineering
activities for the company’s production MBE and MOVPE
systems.
Responsibilities will include:
- Day-to-day management of sustaining process engineering activities and associated engineering personnel for company’s production MBE and MOVPE reactors (between 6 and 10 reactors active at any one time).
- Driving all troubleshooting and problem solving activities so that issues are resolved efficiently and effectively in a manner that prevents re-occurrence.
- Responsible for driving process improvements in manner consistent with overall business plan.
- Monitoring yield and throughput metrics and driving improvement activities to ensure profitable operation that is consistent with overall business plan
- Collaborate with maintenance and facilities departments to ensure that equipment is adequately set up to achieve manufacturing goals
- Collaborate with product engineering to ensure to
ensure that process is adequately tuned and controlled
to exceed customer demands.
Requirements:
- BS in science or engineering is required (advanced degree is a plus)
- At least 7 years of direct epitaxial engineering experience in either MOVPE and or MBE
- At least 3 years of engineering management experience

The primary responsibilities of this role are to

daily helpdesk/project environment for 30% to 35% of the
time, whilst the remainder of time working hands-on in a
